Voice Teacher/Music Theater Coach
Have you ever wanted to learn how to sing?
Perhaps you sing in your church or school choir and have been told you have “potential for greatness.”
Perhaps you want to pursue vocal performance in college or as a career.
Perhaps you have studied in the past, but merely need to polish and coach your performance skills.
Or, perhaps singing is merely a hobby that you would like to improve upon.
If you are over the age of 12 and live in the Northwest Indiana area, then now is your chance to begin studying one of God’s most precious gifts: your voice!
Keri Burman holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance and is an associate member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. Trained by some of the best instructors and coaches in the United States and Italy, Ms. Burman understands the mechanics of the singing voice. Also having received advanced training in music and theater at a conservatory in Los Angeles and New York, she is well-versed in performance technique. Like her own former instructors, Ms. Burman prides herself in being a warm and caring teacher who focuses and tailors her lessons to fit the individual needs of each particular student.
As her voice student, here are some of the things you will learn:
- The fundamentals of breath and its proper use in singing
- The proper production of a clean, focused resonance in singing
- Basic musicianship/theory knowledge (including reading musical notes and terms, if the need is demonstrated)
- Proper performance technique, which involves poise, interpretation of text, and proper interaction with an accompanist.
In addition to music, Ms. Burman is also passionate about helping students and performers prepare for various theater performances and auditions. Perhaps you have a big audition coming up and you want to polish your presentation. Perhaps you have a role in a local production that you want to get “right.” Ms. Burman is also available to serve as a performance coach.
In these sessions, the student will explore:
- Audition techniques
- Repertoire exploration and expansion
- Poise and interpretation of text/music
- Proper Interaction with an accompanist/director
- Monologue preparation
- Cold-Reading tips/practice
